One Fine Day in Mindelo and surround...

It was Sunday, 7 February 2010, just 1 week before the carnival in Mindelo. Charming Miss M and I arrived in Mindelo early morning. Nobody answered the door at our reserved hotel. We decided to charter a taxi to go around the island. So we visited Mt. Verde, several small villages and beaches, including Calhau, and had a lunch in a restaurant near Calhau where the live music, and dance were in the menu.

Carnival Rehearsal at Mindelo

It was 7 February 2010, the rehearsal, one week before the main carnival in Mindelo.

Mindelo

Mindelo is our favourite city. An colorful colonial city with nice water front view, with nice cafe, bars, and restaurant. The famous carnival is here. We were here on 7 February 2010, just 1 week before the carnival. We could watch and participate in the rehearsal. Was fun.

Casa Cafe Mindelo

We stayed here in the upstair hotel. Nice decoration and nice location. The cafe downstair was great also.

Cidade Velha

About 30 minutes drive from Praia, this small and lovely village was the first western settlement in Cape Verde. Now officially a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 2009). A visit to the fortress (castle) uphill was nice. CVE 500 each person was not cheap, but it included video show and guided walk, worth it. Nice view of the village and sea downhill. If I have time, would like to stay a night in this quite village.
